In The Leaving Year
~ A Poem ~
In the leaving year,
I learned about you:
that there is more beyond this place
and time and you.
In the leaving year,
I learned about me:
that by you I am not defined
but have other doors to walk through.
In the leaving year,
I learned about us:
that our dance no longer held a song.
In the leaving year,
I learned forgiveness:
and to hear the rhythm of
what was really wrong.
In the leaving year,
I learned to trust:
that there must be a greater joy.
In the leaving year,
I learned to stay:
to hold the lifeline and the buoy.
In the leaving year,
I learned not to blame you:
but to persist above the fray.
And in the leaving year,
I learned that doors are there within me:
beckoning the dawn of a new way.
